NatPower Marine Appoints Georg Matzku as Northern Europe Commercial Director
Georg Matzku, Commercial Director in charge of Northern Europe at NatPower Marine
Georg Matzku has been appointed Commercial Director in charge of Northern Europe at NatPower Marine. His appointment is part of the company’s planned expansion and strategic growth as it supports the maritime sector’s transition to cleaner, shore-based energy solutions.
Matzku joins NatPower Marine following more than six years as Director of Shore Power at Wabtec Corporation, bringing with him deep experience in the ports and maritime sector, as well as expertise in renewable energy, logistics and strategic market development.
A recognised authority in onshore power supply solutions, Matzku also serves on the Executive Board of Directors at the European Onshore Power Supply Association (EOPSA), where he has played a key role in advancing cold ironing and zero-emission technologies across Europe and beyond.
In his new role, Matzku will lead the development of NatPower Marine’s global network of e-charging points, creating scalable infrastructure to support clean shore power and propulsion charging for vessels. His leadership will be critical to unlocking £3 billion in planned investment by 2030, targeting the deployment of shore power infrastructure across 120 ports. The initiative aims to equip shipping lines and port operators with practical, low-emission solutions for smarter maritime operations.
“Our mission is to accelerate the decarbonisation of maritime transport by delivering shore power at scale,” said Stefano Sommadossi, CEO of NatPower Marine. “Georg brings not only deep technical knowledge and industry insight but also a clear strategic vision. His appointment reflects our commitment to leading the development of the UK and global shore power infrastructure and delivering long-term value to ports, shipping lines and the wider supply chain.”
“I am excited to join NatPower Marine at such a decisive moment for the maritime sector,” said Georg Matzku. “The scale and ambition of the company’s shore power programme is unmatched. I look forward to working with port authorities, shipping lines and technology partners to drive the adoption of clean, efficient and future-ready power infrastructure across global ports.”
