CM Technologies, the Germany-headquartered specialist in marine engine performance diagnostics, has secured a substantial order for its flagship PREMET X analyser from a leading Cypriot shipmanager.

The order for 19 PREMET X units follows use of the engine performance monitor on two vessels, the success of which led the ship operator to order the solution for half of the operator’s managed fleet of large containerships, bulkers and general cargo ships.

The unnamed shipmanager had historically relied on a mix of performance monitoring tools but wanted a single solution capable of providing consistent, reliable operational data across the fleet.

“The success of PREMET X on the first two vessels made a powerful case for wider use,” said Uwe Krüger, joint Managing Director, CMT. “With this latest order, we’re supporting a progressive shipmanager in gaining reliable insights, lowering operational costs, and ensuring consistency in performance diagnostics.”

PREMET X offers real-time combustion analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and long-term data trends for optimised engine operation and maintenance planning.

Designed by marine engineers for marine engineers, PREMET X monitors the combustion process in real time. It enables users to fine tune the engine during operation, helping balance cylinder loads, optimise injection timing, and detect defective components before they lead to more serious failures. It also contributes to extended engine life, lower emissions and improved compliance by maintaining optimal engine balance and fuel efficiency.

Using high-precision cylinder pressure sensors and non-intrusive acoustic fuel injection sensors, the state-of-the-art technology allows crews and fleet managers to track compression pressure, ignition angle, maximum combustion pressure, mean indicated pressure and exhaust gas temperature.

“A one-degree delay in ignition timing can raise exhaust temperatures by up to 10°C, increasing specific fuel oil consumption by around two percent; metrics that PREMET X helps reduce,” said CMT joint Managing Director David Fuhlbrügge.

The PREMET X system integrates with the PREMET Viewer software, allowing engineers to compare current and historical data, identify performance deviations, and generate detailed reports for superintendents or shore-based teams. With built-in Wi-Fi and optional cloud upload capabilities, fleet managers can access measurement data and firmware updates remotely, ensuring the system remains current and efficient without added burden on vessel crews.

“With global shipping facing increasing operational and regulatory pressures, particularly in relation to fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, detailed engine performance data has become essential,” said Fuhlbrügge. “PREMET X equips engineers and superintendents with the tools to troubleshoot issues proactively, minimise unplanned downtime, and extend maintenance intervals – all of which contribute to more efficient and sustainable operations.

PREMET X standardises fleet-wide engine performance monitoring on one platform. This allows crews to be trained on a single system, which remains consistent regardless of which vessel they’re assigned to. “Continuity is crucial when it comes to troubleshooting and understanding performance baselines, especially if there are frequent crew changes,” he said.

The expansion of PREMET X across the Cyprus-based fleet is part of a broader trend toward digitalisation and data-led decision-making in the maritime sector.  And with more shipowners seeking consistent and reliable performance data, the order underscores CM Technologies’ growing role as a trusted partner in marine engine diagnostics. As fleets move toward smarter, greener operations, solutions like PREMET X are proving indispensable.

CMT is currently configuring PREMET X to the original parameters of the vessels’ engines with units scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2025.
